St-Malo / Matignon

[ Cycle routes Tour de Manche ] [ St-Malo > St-Brieuc ]
  • 32 km
  • intermediaire Level Intermediate

With its enchanting string of seaside resorts, this Tour de Manche stage exudes a feeling of classic seaside holidays, emphasized by Dinard’s splendid coastal villas. Le Passeur, a seabus linking St-Malo to Dinard, allows cyclists to cross the waters by boat here. The attractive rural heritage and a link to St-Jacut-de-la-Mer add to the delights.

The Route

Mostly on roads shared with cars. A greenway links Dinard and Tréméreuc, plus there’s one following the Canal de l’Arguenon to Plancoët train station.

Links

From the Château du Guildo, there’s a link to Plancoët train station via a cycle route following the Arguenon (8km).

Alternative Route

Note that when the St-Malo–Dinard seabus isn’t in operation, mid-Nov–early April, you have to take the dangerous route along the dam over the Rance (road RD168), involving a very narrow stretch, plus steps to the footbridge. We strongly advise against trying this with children.

Practical information

Take the St-Malo–Dinard seabus to avoid the dam over the Rance.

  • Poor signs around St Malo - Matt

We cycled the EV 4 route from Roscoff to St Malo. The whole route was very well signed on all sections until we got to the end of the long green way near Dinard. There were no EV 4 signs at all and we had to make our own way. It wasn't clear where we should come off the green way. We got rather lost for an hour or so. We didn't see another route sign until north of St Malo. I would recommend taking a detailed map of the area until this problem is sorted out.
